Week of Sept. 24-28

Spelling Tests begin this week!  Students have words in their planners as well as on a worksheet.  Spelling test will be on Friday.

We encourage students to read 20 minutes nightly.  We do not have a reading log but highly encourage reading practice to promote fluency and foster a love for reading.

Also, Early Release is this Wednesday at 12:00.  There will be no Boys & Girls Club.  If you will need bus transportation and that is not your ordinary way home, please contact Scott Stagner.

Have a great week!

First Day Success!

We did it!  We survived the first day!  Actually, we not only survived our first day but it was a great success!!!  I am looking forward to this school year!  The first two days are basically getting organized and acclimated.  Then, we have the weekend to rest up from the hard work of getting back into a routine!  I am so impressed with my sweet class!  My hope and prayer is that your child wants to come to school and comes home excited and feeling like a “happy camper” every day.

Next week we will:

Language Arts-

*Continue a writing activity with a school bus your child drew.  (They are adorable)!

*Work on sentence writing.

*Grammar review

Reading-

*Practice summarizing skills

*Review character, setting, plot using a story map

Social Studies-

*Where in the World am I? (Learning about our community)

Have a great, restful weekend!

Intermediate Drop-off Procedures

Intermediate Student Drop-Off Procedures

FIRST POINT: EXPECT VERY LONG LINES AND DELAYS when dropping off and picking up your child.

SECOND POINT: EXPECT LIMITED PARKING SPACES due to construction and improvements being made to our school. This has shifted the parking areas for other campuses to our area.

THIRD POINT: NO parents are allowed upstairs on the intermediate campus. Meet the Teacher will be on August 14th from 4:30-5:30.  If you cannot attend due to your work, a Parent Orientation night will be scheduled soon. School Supplies will be taken in the gym and placed on a cart to be delivered to your child’s classroom once students have been released to go upstairs.

FOURTH POINT: If you have not yet registered your child, there will be no class assignment made until BOTH Online and In-Person documents are completed. Parents will have to wait until teachers and classes have been dismissed from the gym to their classrooms before there will be staff members available to proceed with late registration. PLEASE KNOW: This may not take place until around 8:10 a.m.

Here are the student drop-off procedures that parents will need to review and know before the first day of school on Thursday morning, August 16th. There are lanes that specify BUSES ONLY, and there are lanes designated for CARS. Please watch the video below for how to use these.  Parents with Primary students ONLY will need to drop 0ff primary students on the Lower Level of the building which is the Primary Campus. Parents may not drop off students and allow them to walk across Roughneck Drive due to safety issues and construction congestion. Students may not be dropped off in the Intermediate School parking lot and allowed to walk across the parking lot to the sidewalk. This is very dangerous for your child. Students should never be dropped off earlier than 7:15. There is no school personnel available to supervise students at that time, and they will be completely unattended. Doors to the building open at 7:30.

THIS VIDEO WILL TELL YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DROP-OFF.

Dear Students,

The school year is winding down quickly!  I am so proud of all of you!  You have worked so hard!!!   You have been asking me to learn to write cursive.  So, for the fun of it, I am posting a video of cursive handwriting.  I will give worksheets in class for those who want to do this.  Have fun writing cursive!

Love,

Mrs. Bussey

Zoo Trip

Caldwell Zoo trip is April 10th.  We need parent volunteers to chaperone students at the zoo.  Please send me a note or email if you will volunteer.  If you have not completed a background check, I will send a form home and please return by Wednesday.

Thanks!

Easter Week

Just a reminder:  Friday is a holiday!  Enjoy your long weekend and Happy Easter!

Since it is a short week, there will be no reading passage sent home for homework.  Your child can always get on Read Theory.  They will know how to sign in and all since we do it regularly.  This is a great resource!!

Benchmark information is being sent home today.  Grades are not disclosed but we did mark if your child met expectations or did not.  If your child did not meet expectations, please have him/her do Read Theory and read books at home.  We are pulling your child for tutorials or your child is in an intervention program (in which you have already been notified earlier in the year).  We see your child every day and know how he/she is capable of performing.  Please boost your child with praise and encourage him/her to just do his/her best!  These tests are long and students are building stamina.  The STAAR test is around the corner and we are trying our best to build that stamina in order to prepare them for the rigor of the STAAR test.  Making sure your child is reading for extended periods of time and staying focused will be the best tool you can give your child.

This Week:

Vocabulary test on Quizlet will be on Wednesday.  Your child needs to be practicing Quizlet as much as possible.

Spelling words are being sent home today.  Test will be next Thursday (4/5).

We will be discussing the Benchmark and reviewing testing strategies.

Easter Party is on Thursday at 8:30.  Please make sure your child has 19 filled Easter eggs with their Easter basket by Wednesday.  Students will be allowed to sign out in the rooms after the party.  PLEASE make sure you sign your child out so I am not frantically looking for him/her and going in panic mode…ha!
